Everything in Nature contains all the powers of Nature. Everything is made of one hidden stuff.
When I wrote the song, The Way It Is, I wanted to move people to take a stand on civil rights in this country.
I feel like what I owe my audience is what I'm most passionate about.
Songwriters I've always been drawn to are people who deal with something of depth in the lyric writing. . . . I've always been influenced by the folk song, the storytelling tradition in folk music. And so for years I wrote mostly story songs. I still do that, but as I've gone on, it's gotten a little more personal. I used to write mostly in the third person. I write a little more in the first person now.
People were talking while I was playing, so I got up and left the stage. I've gotten to the point where I'm not really very patient with patrons rapping during the show. And the people were all nice and quiet when I cam back.
I guess after you've been doing something for 20 plus years, you have to work to stay interested.
Some things will never change.
I like to look at pictures, all kinds. And all those things you absorb come out subconsciously one way or another. You'll be taking photographs and suddenly know that you have resources from having looked at a lot of them before. There is no way you can avoid this. But this kind of subconscious influence is good, and it certainly can work for one. In fact, the more pictures you see, the better you are as a photographer.
I think that we are right now - the society - is living in the Facebook era and the political system is still in the 19th century prior to the Industrial era. Why for God's sake do you need to be socially liberal and economically conservative? Or to be economically market-oriented but at the same time socially, extremely conservative? Why can't you be free in both dimensions?
The solitary knows the essence of the thought, the scholar in society only its fair face.
I should get a dog. I would get a rescue dog. I like mutts; I don't care. I would probably get a three-legged dog no one else would want.
