The thing about me not doing superhero movies, that's not true at all. Movies are movies. You just go.
[I like] Die Hard and Paul Verhoeven movies. S - t like that.
You see that a lot in movies, and today you see it more in movies that are made, because I feel more movies are made towards groups than towards individuals, and they're made more for mass media than for sitting in a movie house allowing it to happen.
Not everybody relates to pain, but if you can watch other people playacting it, you can absorb some of that vibe. It's like watching horror movies - you want to have the experience, but in a safe environment.
I want people to feel something in the pit of their stomach. I want my movies, especially the ending, to stay with people long after the credits have rolled.
I would rather stop [making movies] too soon than too late.
Initially, it connected with me when I was a kid, seeing a lot of movies while growing up in Los Angeles. And Sam's [Fuller] pictures are an expression of such a distinct voice that he was one of those filmmakers who made me aware that there was, in fact, a real presence behind the camera that was telling the story, as opposed to actors just presenting it.
We sell the movies. Women need to know they are an asset and they are the ones who should be making the money.
The same sensations that you get in heavy metal are in horror movies. Heavy metal sounds evil and horror movies are evil, ha ha!
Making movies is a dangerous job. Because you are always the one who stands at the center of the universe when making movies.
Some of my favorite movies have explored the father-son dynamic, in a very loving way. It can be complicated, but at the end, it's that moment where you're crying because of that core relationship.
If I would rescue one of my movies, it would be 'A Little Princess. '
Friday means popcorn and multiplexes, speaking of movies, and it is the multi that is the problem. So many movie screens. The struggle of what to put on them.
I have a to-do list and I have a farm I care for, and things I like to do for fun - going to movies and all that stuff. It's a painfully normal life!
Sometimes movies really are the best medicine.
(About the movies:) Well, I git enough of sorrow. I like to git away from it.
I understand it all. I can write my own ticket for one or two movies. But if they're not the right ones, my ticket gets yanked. I understand that's how it works, and I'm okay with it.
It's always been strange to me that someone can say they're a vampire fan. I'm not a non-fan, but it's such an unusual thing to be a fan of. That's like saying, "I love zombie movies! I just love 'em! They're my favorite!" That's more of a psychological problem than being an actual fan.
It's not like some movies where you're following a bunch of different stories you can cut around. There was nowhere to cut to. It's these guys. We're not cutting back to anybody else
I am really proud that I am one of the artists that has the opportunity to be on magazine covers and to be in the movies.
