I love that our sport is sexy. I think it is appropriately so.
We've Tweeted him, we've stalked him [on] Facebook. We thought because he was so into volleyball he would have got back to us. But no luck so far.
We had two goals. . . One was to cherish every moment together, cherish the journey because the journey allows you to learn and grow. The other was to win a gold medal.
If you want to be in the best shape, diet is super important. You can exercise all you want, but if you're not eating the right foods, it's not going to equal out. You're not going to get the results you want.
'Concentrate on measuring performance and winning will take care of itself'. That is a brilliant excuse for coming second.
I've never known a man worth his salt who, in the long run, deep down in his heart, didn't appreciate the grind, the discipline
I was supposed to be too short to play college volleyball.
"I guess I'm okay with that. But it's not going to be easy for you. They don't have a lot of fishing or mudding around here. " "I figured. " "And not a lot of beach volleyball, either. Especially in January. " "I guess I'll have to make some sacrifices. " "Maybe if you're lucky, we can find you some other ways to occupy your time. "
That concerns me. You're either getting better or you're getting worse. I don't think you stay the same in sports. If we want to achieve something special in the game, then these players have to recognize that they're responsible every day for getting better.
This year's Olympics will be replacing the women's beach volleyball bikinis with uniforms that are less revealing. The stricter dress code was made to appease the conservative nation of 'Buzzkillistan. '

When you lose a couple of times, it makes you realize how difficult it is to win.
Don't be a spectator, don't let life pass you by
There are no shortcuts. I approached practices the same way I approached games. You can't turn it on and off like a faucet. I couldn't dog it during practice and then, when I needed that extra push late in the game, expect it to be there. Very few people get anywhere by taking shortcuts.
Individual and team discipline ultimately come down to practicing a small set of principles over a long period of time. Success is not a matter of mastering subtle, sophisticated theory, but rather embracing common sense with uncommon levels of discipline and persistence. Said in yet another way, discipline is to an athlete what scales are to a musician. Mastering the scales is what allows the musician to perform music. Mastering the skills of self discipline is what enables a person to become an accomplished elite athlete.
