But presidents matter. That's one of the biggest lessons I learned being in the White House.
Under our Constitution, presidents have something called 'veto power.
Some people want to be bank presidents. Other people want to rob banks.
I don't find any presidents all that sexy. They're not very rock'n'roll.
One of the things that will probably need to be addressed is in the treatment of history, i. e. the Presidential Papers Act. If they can act with impunity, if they know that what they're doing is not going to see the light of day anytime in their lifetime, if they have the right to withhold information from the public, then presidents are given a vastly freer hand.
I do have to say that I think that President Obama is the greatest President in the history of all of our Presidents, and that he can do no wrong in my book. So how's that for prejudice on the Democratic side?
From George Washington to George W. Bush, presidents have invoked God's name in the performance of their official duties.

So when it came to role models, I looked at presidents' wives. Of course, you're talking about a farm girl who stood in the fields, dreaming, years ago, wishing she was that kind of person. But if I had been that kind of person, do you think I could sing with the emotions I do? You sing with those emotions because you've had pain in your heart.
There are a lot of smart honest, progressive people who I think can be good presidents.
The Presidents job, is not to wield power himself, but to lead attention away from it.

The presidents against Congress, the Senate is against the House, people are against politicians, and I'm against cats in the house.
Fidel Castro outlasted U. S. presidents determined to overthrow him, survived the collapse of the communist bloc that sustained him and outlived many of those who wanted to replace him. For those reasons, he will go down in history as among the world's most skillful politicians, even if his achievements largely die with him.
