Progress is measured by milestones. What many good people lack are markers that might tell them how they are actually doing. Goals can become a ritual or a fetish, but in the right measure they can give us some much needed reference points. No wonder some seem discouraged! Minus such milestones, we often feel minus in our lives
I have an Augustus Waters fetish.
Fetish is a straight-up sex song.
Was this some new level of depravity? Had he developed a spinster fetish?
Well, I guess the sexual abuse by Mel Phillips in a sense, he had a fetish for feet. He used to play with my feet and other kids' feet, and that was his thing.
Fetish is the exploration of sex as art, and the refinement of one’s personal desires. Anything can be fetishised. . . There’ll be new fetishes forever. I feel that the 21st century is all about fetish.
There is a tendency under capitalism system to reduce everything to a kind of commodity fetish, and this order tends to promote extremely conventional and uniform expressions of gender and sexuality in order to promote certain products and lifestyle choices that are commercialized. This necessarily entails a capitulation to heteronormativity, or in the case of the new gay movement, a "homonormativity" that doesn't stray far from the heterosexual paradigm. Anyone who questions these normative values and conventions is subject to disapproval, hostility, or even violence.
I have a bit of a lava lamp fetish. They are kind of hideous, but there is something so therapeutic about them.
This sounds really lame, but I'm pretty proud of my feet. I've gotten so many compliments for having nice feet. If someone has a foot fetish, I'd have an in. I love foot rubs, too. I'll take one whenever I can.
I'm a fetish filmmaker, in that I don't know why I do what I do, I just like to see things. When I figure out what I would like to see, I will put it in a film.
I am well aware that there is such a great craving in man for heroism and the heroic, and that hero worship forms not a small motif in his complex. I am also aware that, unless man believes in his own heroism and the heroism of others, he cannot achieve much or great things. We must, however, take proper care that we do not make a fetish of this cult of hero-worship, for then we will turn ourselves into votaries of false gods and prophets.
Perfection can be a fetish
I have a fetish for damsels in distress.
When I first learned about Abrams and saw the types of books they were making, I knew I wanted my books to be published by them. Abrams books are special-when you hold one in your hands, you have the feeling that this book needed to be made. I once heard an artist say that books are fetish objects-I think Abrams gets that, because their books demand to be treasured. So who better to give comics art its proper due? I feel privileged to have found a home with Abrams.
Anyway, the fetish crowd, compared to some of the people that hung out with the skinheads, was all pussycats.
Without making a fetish of goal setting, and without letting "lists" of tasks we desire to do dominate us, some recording of goals is wise not only for the self-reminder these constitute, but also for the satisfaction of crossing things off.
I am trying to represent design through drawing. I have always drawn things to a high degree of detail. That is not an ideological position I hold on drawing but is rather an expression of my desire to design and by extension to build. This has often been mistaken as a fetish I have for drawing: of drawing for drawing’s sake, for the love of drawing. Never. Never. Yes, I love making a beautiful, well-crafted drawing, but I love it only because of the amount of information a precise drawing provides
I have no interest in artists who are purely affirmative, who've made a commercialized fetish of the culture's stupidity.
The language of pornography is abusive, that of romance adoring. Both are addressed to a fetish.
I don't have much time for stories," Vin said. "Seems that fewer and fewer people do, these days. " A canopy kept off the ash, but he seemed unconcerned about the mists. "It makes me wonder what is so alluring about the real world that gives them all such a fetish for it. It's not a very nice place these days.
