I do get a little shy about contemporary language and events, but I also enjoy the idea of dating myself, somehow, anchoring a song in a specific time and place. Sometimes the new words and objects are too enjoyable and descriptive to ignore. And maybe making work that acknowledges that it won't last forever is important, too.
I hope I have a little talent, but a lot of it was luck. I went through setbacks. People said I looked too young, people said I wasn't good, nobody said, 'Come here, baby, we're going to make you a star. ' Early on, when I'd say, 'Can I do some anchoring?' people would look at me like I was crazy.
So this anchoring in some way, in some important way in the past without repeating the past, but on the basis of the past building something new: that is what is important.
I have enjoyed anchoring at 'Headline News' but have decided that it is time for me to make a change in my daily professional life.
When I'm anchoring, I miss chasing stories in the field.
No word floats without an anchoring connection within an overall structure.
