Reardan is the rich white farm town that sits in the wheat fields exactly 22 miles away from the Rez. And it's a hick town I suppose filled with farmers and rednecks and racists cops who stop every Indian that drives through. During one week when I was little dad got stopped three times for DWI- Driving While Indian.
I'd rather make $700 a week playing a maid than earn $7 a day being a maid.
Boxing is fascinating. It's good for the soul to be made to feel clumsy. I swank around during the week thinking I'm a big cheese, but you don't feel like that when you're in the ring with a chap who knows what he's doing. It's ritual humiliation. I'm going to be slugged about and probably killed, but I love it and have to do something to keep fit.
Consistency shows value. It breeds trust. You know that I'm going to show up every week.
Saturday night is the loneliest night in the week.
We ask sales managers what they would do if they had an extra hour in their week. They always say they would get out in the field and coach their reps. Yet, they don't.
After two weeks of working on a project, you know whether it will work or not.
Without food, man can live at most but a few weeks; without it, all other components of social justice are meaningless.
Some of the best auditions I've ever had have been when my agent called and said, 'They want you 20 minutes ago, in an office in Century City, to see you for something. ' I'm not sitting there thinking for a week and a half, before I'm supposed to go in front of a network president to do something. That just gives you time to be nervous.
I can go for a week without a guitar, but it's not even funny if I don't get to surf for a month.
I play basketball all the time. Me and my band play every week on the road. That's something that I've never really given up since high school.
John Kerry keeping a low profile this week. He said he wanted to get away and go someplace where no one would expect to see him. So I guess he showed up at his old seat in the Senate. Nobody's going to look for him there.
It is our duty to try to be perfect, … to improve each day, and look upon our course last week and do things better this week; do things better today than we did them yesterday
Every couple weeks I'll listen to Sibelius's Seventh Symphony, just to check in, to see how it's doing. It's doing OK.
There is no real magic to being a good leader. But at the end of every week, you have to spend your time around the things that are really important: setting priorities, measuring outcomes, and rewarding them.
My weeks tend to differ pretty dramatically.
This week Sarah Palin's memoir became a bestseller. It's not even out yet. It's being translated into English.
So when I got the chance to do my first talk show, 50 years ago last month, I never had any writers. There was no budget - it was just me and the camera and my friend who was the director. I talked about what I'd done that week.
If you do eight shows a week it's just too difficult to try to put everything that you can together.
I try to work out with my personal trainer for an hour, four times a week - we mainly concentrate on weights and running. If I'm on the road I sometimes do DVD work-outs in my hotel room - P90X and Insanity are a couple of my favourites.
