Spiritual power begins by directing animal power to other than egoistic ends.
If the knowledge of torture of others makes you sick, it is a case of sympathy. . . It can be argued that behaviour based on sympathy is in an important sense egoistic, for one is oneself pleased at others' pleasure and pained at others' pain, and the pursuit of one's own utility may thus be helped by sympathetic action.
Every discussion which is made from an egoistic standpoint is corrupted from the start and cannot yield an absolutely sure conclusion. The ego puts its own interest first and twists every argument, word, even fact to suit that interest.

When you see the divinity in others, you are Divine. When you see ego in others, you are egoistic.
Real knowing comes up when we stand in the appropriate place. But usually we don’t. First we want to understand something according to individual knowledge, prejudice, customs and habits. This means we are standing up in our individual place, not the universal perspective. This egoistic behavior makes it very difficult to see the overall picture. But buddhas and ancestors recommend that we first stand up in the appropriate place. Just stand up, be present in the Universe itself.
From compassion springs humility. The ego is verily a gateway to hell. The person who is egoistic is far from being religious.
