I like expansive stuff that has a lot of space in it, like some of the early Pink Floyd albums.
Issues deals with the issues I had, the fears I had and it isn't a 'nice' album but fears and depressions are not particularly nice.
It was Miles Davis who took me to New York, and Coltrane was in the band, as well as Paul Chambers, Philly Jo Jones. 'Trane took me aside, and, of course, we did Blue Trane, which was my first album-and that started everything. He had confidence that I didn't have; he saw something that I didn't see.
I would love to make an album full of ballads. For a listener, I want to have variety on there.
But I'm always trying to plan ahead too and in doing so, and in working on this album, I've met a lot people that I hope to be involved with, on their records and in their situations.
I never do any album to beat it. I do it to extend it.
Well, Smoke n' Mirrors has very much a world music flavor and it doesn't park itself in one country. It borrows heavily from the Brazilian angle, which is dear to my heart, and I recorded several albums with that flavor.
I don't think we really planned it ahead of time but rather oozed out of our pores. All three of the demonstrative themes of Corrosion of Conformity are on there. The HardcorePunk from the 80's, the late 80'searly 90's mathy metal and finally the more Pepper, swampydoomy stuff. We love all three so that's what came out on the album and I think it came out magically.
I plan to do my next two albums with Lady Gaga. She is quite a talent.
People don't make albums any more. It's always about singles. I wanted to take that old-school approach.
Any good album title has multiple meanings, and I like choosing titles where I find myself repeating it, almost like a mantra.
England is the first country that I've had a no. 1 album in, so it is now officially my home away from home.
Everything that came later. . . the roots are all there in the first album.
I've seen lawyers who don't represent me and spokespeople who do not know me speaking for me. These characters always seem to surface with dreadful allegations just as another project, an album, a video is being released.
I'm very proud of all the bluegrass-oriented albums. It just reminded me and my fans that I should always record acoustic music and country records, along with anything else that I might want to do.
I know a lot of people who are 12 and doing things they shouldnt be doing. Whether youre an actress or a singer, its always the sexier ones that are selling more tickets or selling more albums.
I don't think that bands that make it on their first album are as strong as bands that don't: there is nowhere to go but down.
You just want to go back to those 70s albums. Even a lot of the 90s indie records were still done on tape, and you hear the difference.
Cry Baby wasn't necessarily a baby theme but I understand what they're saying. So like, Cry Baby is definitely a remaining character throughout all of my albums.
So many people release albums before Christmas and they get lost in the Christmas rush.
