a spiritual life without prayer is like the gospel without Christ.
Few people think about this or are aware of it. But there is nothing made by human beings that does not involve a design decision somewhere.
If there's a simple, easy design principle that binds everything together, it's probably about starting with the people.
I don’t think that anyone has really told (people) what design is. It doesn’t occur to most people that everything is designed--that every building and everything they touch in the world is designed. Even foods are designed now. So in the process of helping people understand this, making them more aware of the fact that the world around us is something that somebody has control of, perhaps they can feel some sense of control, too. I think that’s a nice ambition.
If there is a simple, easy principle that binds everything I have done together, it is my interest in people and their relationship to things.
The only way to experience an experience is to experience it
I like the concept of wearing in instead of wearing out.
We've taken the view that if the rest of the world would democratize and create market economies, that would spread the benefits of prosperity around the world, and that it would enhance our own prosperity, and our own stability and security, as well.
If you can find an opening, you can probably find a way to float through it.
You need to have people within your own party that have the wherewithal to stand up to you.
Don't talk like one of them. You're not! Even if you'd like to be. To them, you're just a freak, like me! They need you right now, but when they don't, they'll cast you out, like a leper! You see, their morals, their code, it's a bad joke. Dropped at the first sign of trouble. They're only as good as the world allows them to be. I'll show you. When the chips are down, these. . . these civilized people, they'll eat each other. See, I'm not a monster. I'm just ahead of the curve. -The Joker
