Thomas Secker (21 September 1693 – 3 August 1768) was the Archbishop of Canterbury in the Church of England.
To pray against temptation, and yet rush into occasions, is to thrust your fingers into the fire, and then pray they might not be burnt.
He enjoys much who is thankful for little.
Some persons do first, think afterward, and then repent forever.
If you would not step into the harlot's house, do not go by the harlot's door.
Whoever would entitle himself after death through the merits of his Redeemer, to the noblest of rewards, let him serve God throughout life in this most excellent of all duties, doing good to our brethren. Whoever is sensible of his offences, let him take this way especially of evidencing his repentance.
To do evil for good is human corruption; to do good for good is civil retribution; but to do good for evil is Christian perfection. Though this be not the grace of nature, it is the nature of grace.
