I didn't want to do an electro-class album or complex rap album. I wanted to do something that was kind of like a political statement, but also club jams. I wanted it to be dancy, but intelligent at the same time.
It was how wars really ended, Dieffenbaker supposed -- not at truce tables but in cancer wards and office cafeterias and traffic jams. Wars died one tiny piece at a time, each piece something that fell like a memory, each lost like an echo that fades in winding hills. In the end even war ran up the white flag. Or so he hoped. He hoped that in the end even war surrendered.
There are no traffic jams when you go the extra mile.
I also think stress is related to control. When you're in charge of your life, you tend to not care about losing control of things that don't really matter like traffic jams.
Let me keep it 100% real with you, when there was park jams nobody rapped at a park jam when I was rapping and that's a fact. You can ask anybody don't just take my word for it do your research cuz it seems everyone wants to make themselves bigger than what they are.
If I was a Mayor, I would sort the traffic out and that includes public transport. The traffic jams really get on my nerves.
We are probably the most frustrating band to soundcheck because we always go off on jams and our sound-man is sitting there going: "oh god, I don't want to interrupt this, but. . . we've got to get things moving along. . . " We're just easily distracted because we want to be writing all the time!

From literature to ecology, from the escape velocity of galaxies to the greenhouse effect, from garbage disposal methods to traffic jams, everything is discussed in our world. But the democratic system, as if it were a given fact, untouchable by nature until the end of time, we don't discuss that.
We auditioned a lot of great drummers; every one of them was world class. We had a lot of fun playing with each of them and had some great jams. With Mike [Mangini] it was just something really special about what was going on.
