For conservation to be successful it is necessary to take into consideration that it is a characteristic of man that he can only be relied upon to do anything consistently which is in his own interest.
We have a very old conservation movement, particularly in the United States, which has focused on campaigns to protect endangered species: the spotted owl, the old-growth forest. But usually it stops there. To me, biodiversity is the full spectrum. Species conservation is not only about wilderness conservation. Its also about protecting the livelihood of people even while changing the dominant relationship that humans have had with other species. In India, its an economic issue, not just an ecological one.
Humans are too stupid to prevent climate change from radically impacting on our lives over the coming decades.
Conservation is a state of harmony between men and land.
Take nothing but memories, leave nothing but footprints!
Conservation is now a dead word.
We'd find more energy in the attics of American homes (through energy conservation measures) than in all the oil buried in Alaska.
The more you know about a species, the more you understand about how better to help protect them.
I like to get into a lot of things besides movies. I've been very involved with a few specific efforts. We built this park in New York and it's been a very successful project. I worked on a conservation project in East Africa. Too much of this type of stuff can get you wrapped up in your own work and I love it.
Conservation of energy also protects our environment.
Life should be built on the conservation of energy.
We must encourage energy conservation and sustainable development. Young people are the ones who are most environmentally conscious in Ireland, so that to some extent they are educating their parents. They are tackling issues of waste disposal and so on. The schools help, because they put a lot of stress on environmental awareness.
