Sarah Margaret "Sally" Roffey Jewell (born February 21, 1956) is a British-American politician and businessperson who served as the 51st United States Secretary of the Interior in the administration of President Barack Obama. She was the second woman to hold the position, after Gale Norton (in the administration of George W. Bush). Jewell was sworn in on April 12, 2013. As Secretary, she was the steward of twenty percent of U.S. land. Jewell began her career as an engineer working in the oil industry before transitioning into banking. In 1996, she began working for REI, a Seattle-based retailer of outdoor gear, eventually becoming the company's chief operating officer, then CEO.
