Jamie McKelvie is a British cartoonist and illustrator, known for his both work on books such as Phonogram, Young Avengers and The Wicked + The Divine, and his approach to comic character design.
I've always believed comics should bring in things like that, and they haven't for a very long time, in general. You always get people complaining, "What's it going to look like in 10 years' time?" It's ridiculous. Everything is going to age. If you try and avoid dating it, you just end up with something that doesn't mean anything.
It's 2014, and adults are still writing articles about whether other adults should read comic books or not.
Really, though, I just want to make the kind of comics I wouldn't be embarrassed to read in public.
Man Of Steel looks great, is well cast, and is, moralistically, completely rotten to the core.
There's a Marvel superhero called Black Bolt & his real name is Blackagar Boltagon & that really tells you a lot about superhero comics.
A lot of superhero stuff now looks great but it's so difficult to read if you don't know how to read comics. I deliberately focus on the story.
You get used to it I suppose, but it's always a bit disappointing to see a comic referred to as 'by [writer]' and no one else.
